Hanneman Samuel is one of the lecturer at Sociology Department, University of Indonesia. He gained his bachelor degree in Sociology from University of Indonesia in 1984 by writing a thesis entitled “Job Stability of Circular Migrants in Construction Sector in Jakarta”. He continued his education by studying philosophy in sociology at University of Kent, Canterbury, UK and got his master degree from that University. His Master degree thesis is “Industrialisation and Class Formation in Contemporary Indonesia”. In 2001 Hanneman obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia with thesis entitled The Development of Sociology In Indonesia: The Production of Knowledge, State Formation And Economic Change.

As a Lecturer, his fields of study for undergraduate students are Contemporary Sociological Theories, Classical Sociological Theories, the Indonesian Social System, Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Development, Theories of Social Change. For post-graduate students, he is lecturing Contemporary Sociological Theories, Classical Sociological Theories, Development and Social Change, Sociology of Indonesia (Master programme), Sociology of Knowledge (Master programme), Classical Sociological Theories (Master & doctorate programmes), Modern Sociological Theories (Master & doctorate programmes)

Besides being a lecturer, Hanneman has conducted so many researches. Beginning as a research assistant in 1982, he became a senior researcher two years later and his research at that time was about Sociological Aspects of the Preparation of the Master plan of KOTIP Bontang East Kalimantan Pt Encona Engineering Consultant. In year 2006, he became a team leader in researching Social Audit of PT INCO, tbk Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, PT Indonesia Nickel Company, tbk.

Hanneman has published many scientific writings, one of it is Indonesian Social Sciences: Looking back, Creating the Future A contributor to the Regional Cooperation and Identity Building in East Asia in the Age of Post-Cold War Globalisation (eds. by Park Sa-Myung and Supachai Yavaprabhas), Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies and ASEAN University Network.

During his career, Hanneman has already supervised more than 50 thesis for undergraduate programme, 20 thesis for master programme, and 7 thesis for Doctorate programme. Now he is focusing on his publications and research project which still in progress.
