Doktoral Program

Doktoral Program of Sociology is a unit under the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia, therefore the vision, mission and objectives are integrated with the Department of Sociology.

Vision 

The Graduate School of Sociology as a center of excelence for research-based postgraduate studies in sociology, at national and ASEAN level, to contribute to achieving public welfare.

Mission

  1. Creating academic atmosphere and environment that is conducive for excelent learning of sociology.
  2. Promoting the values of honesty, integrity and concern among the entire academic community, in implementing sociology for the welfare of society.
  3. Encouraging the academic community to conduct learning activities and developing innovative and excelent sociology at national and international levels.
  4. Developing an sociology curriculum in sociology with emphasis on critical analytical ability , competencies in Englishl, and diverse research methodologies.
  5. Developing academic and social networks in sociology and other social sciences both at national and international level.

The general objective Graduate Program of Sociology

To produce graduates who have critical analytical capabilities, who are able to apply and develop innovative scientific and sociological expertise in national and international competition, and having integrity and concern in implementing their knowledge for the improvement of people’s welfare.

While the following specific objectives  aredesigned to achieve the common above goal.

Specific objectives of Graduate School of Sociology

  1. To offer post graduate level learning in sociology, which is innovative, critical and multi paradigmatic that can compete with similar institutions at national and international levels.
  2. To produce students and graduates who have integrity, commitment and concern to the development and practice of scientific and sociological expertise for the benefit of people’s welfare.
  3. To prepare students and produce graduates who are capable of critical thinking, have good communicating skill, and have a high social awareness, to participate in the development of scientific and sociological expertise at national and international levels.
  4. To produce sociology graduates who are reliable and professional with emphasis on their integrity and commitment to social welfare for the people.
  5. To provide an atmosphere and academic environment for the academic community (faculty and students), that are conducive and encouraging for scientific development through academic and non academic activities in the graduate program of Sociology.
  6. To build networks and cooperation with different institutions at the national and international levels in an effort to produce students that are able to compete in national and global markets, as well as contributing to the development of scientific and sociological expertise.

Curriculum of Doktoral in Sociology

Doctoral Program in Sociology requires a total of 49 credit units, which consists of 21 credits of Compulsory courses plus 28 credits for dissertation writing that must be completed in a minimum of 6 semesters (3 years) and a maximum of 10 semesters (5 years).

Academic degree Doctor of  Sociology will be given to students who have taken the following steps:

  • Qualification Exam (Non credit unis, compulsory prior to becoming Doctoral candidates so that students can continue writing the dissertation)
  • Dissertation (28 credit units), consisting of 4 exams: Research Proposal exams (8 credit units); Colloquium / Seminar of research findings (12 credit units); Pre Promotion (5 credit units) Doctoral Promotion (3 credit units)

Matriculation (Non credit units)

Matriculation courses are mandatory for those who do not have basic competencies in Sociology, prior to take coursed in Doctoral program:

  • Classical and Modern Sociological Theory
  • Qualitative Research Method
  • Quantitative Research Method
  • Social statistics
